How To Get Featured In The Trade Media

Broaden your reach and boost your credibility

Getting yourself published is one of the best ways to build your reputation, attract partnerships and boost your credibility as a business, but it isn’t always easy to achieve. While we encourage you to aim high in business, you need achievable goals and realistic targets to ensure you succeed. Editors receive huge numbers of proposed articles and news items from brands,manufacturers and fellow practitioners to publish, so you need a strong strategy to secure your place in their pages.

Trade publications can help your business grow

First of all, don’t be afraid to approach editors with your ideas, insights and research. They often rely on article submissions for either their print or online content, and it can very much function as an “I’ll scratch your back if you scratch mine” situation. They are helping provide a platform for you and your business while you help them deliver content which meets the needs of their readers. Make sure you always consider what you can offer their readers – be that education or learning opportunities, new insights or techniques, case studies or relevant industry news and views.

The time is NOW

There’s no time like the present, so to get you started we would recommend first checking out the publication in question via their website, and perhaps send an email of interest. You need to know the publishing schedule, including themes and topics, all of which can be found in their editorial calendar. As well as this, you will need to get to grips with the guidelines and what they expect of all of their writers, from article format and length, to proposal deadlines and accepted topics. Put together a short proposal email and once your idea has been approved by the editor, you’re good to go! Get writing and before you know it you’ll see your articles in print!
